Why Saber Tag X-Treme
Belongs on Campus

Campus rec directors carry a specific stack of structural challenges: keeping intramural participation steady through the sophomore year, providing Greek programming that isn't another mixer, delivering Title IX-clean competitive opportunities by design rather than retrofit, and adding programming that actually distinguishes the campus rec experience. Saber Tag X-Treme addresses all four through a single mobile license. Club sport, intramural league, Greek event format, and student activity board programming run from the same equipment and the same operator certification.

Club Sport Ready

Turnkey format for existing campus rec club sport structures. Equipment, rulebook, bracket management, and officiating framework provided. Launch as a full club sport in a single academic term.

Intramural League

Individual-entry league format designed for the 18-22 undergrad demographic. No team roster requirement. Students compete on their own progression. The fastest-growing category in campus recreation programming.

Greek Life Events

Private 2-hour bookings for fraternity and sorority rush events, philanthropy fundraisers, and inter-chapter tournaments. Ages 13+. Electronic scoring makes every guest a competitor, not a spectator.

Real Achievement

National rankings from the first competition. Permanent athlete profiles follow students through transfer, graduation, and beyond. Pathway to the Eastern Regionals (Connecticut), competitive documentation that holds up.

The
Electronic-Scored
Light Sword League

Weekly 2-hour sessions. Real brackets. National rankings published online after every session. Every athlete has a permanent profile on Saber Circuit from their first match.

The 2020 Armor electronic scoring vest. Backed by Century Martial Arts, a widely used name in electronic scoring equipment worldwide, removes every subjective call. The score is what the vest says it is. No judge disputes.

  • Three formats: Solo Form, Partner Performance, Full Contact
  • All equipment mobile, no permanent installation needed
  • Ages 13+: undergraduate, graduate, and qualifying teen ROTC cadet populations
  • 2-hour sessions fit existing programming slots

The Code of S.A.B.E.R.

Five principles every athlete commits to before competing: Security, Aptitude, Bravery, Ethics, Resolve. The Code provides the documented student-conduct framework that campus rec programs need for risk-management review and that aligns with how college student-affairs offices already think about character development in co-curricular programming.

S
Security

Internal stability allowing clear decision-making under pressure. Athletes learn to act from conviction, not anxiety.

How Local Sponsors
Cover League Costs

Local businesses that already want sustained campus visibility. Independent campus bookstores, college-town restaurants, regional apparel brands, and athletic-adjacent services. Sponsor student participation in exchange for week-after-week brand exposure at league events. The campus rec department collects sponsor revenue directly. LSTA provides ready-to-use sponsorship packages designed for campus partner outreach.

Grant Eligibility

The Mobile License qualifies for the following grant categories. LSTA provides supporting documentation on request.

Campus Recreation Budgets. Standard campus rec program allocations and NIRSA-recognized club sport funding cover the mobile license.

Student Activity Fee Programming. Student activity boards allocate their own programming budgets to cover events and tournaments.

STEM-Adjacent Programming. Motion-tracking and electronic scoring qualify for STEM engagement grants at universities with engineering and biomechanics programs.

Greek Life & Student Org Budgets: Fraternities, sororities, and student organizations fund their own event bookings. Revenue flows directly to campus rec as venue host.

"Keith Nye licensed the full academy system and opened his own academy in Connecticut. I have only ever visited as a guest. He runs the weekly leagues, manages Saber Circuit, documents every result, and captures every testimonial, completely independently. The model replicates without me in the room. That is the standard your campus recreation program Mobile License is built on."

Campus Rec Plugs Into A Complete System.

A campus recreation program licensing Saber Tag X-treme is not buying a seasonal activity. It is plugging into the Warrior Intelligence System Edge. Four operating layers that institutional programs typically have to assemble across multiple vendors. Your campus gets all four under one license, with documentation that supports NIRSA review, Title IX architecture, and conference-differentiation requirements.

Four Masters.
One System.

Saber Tag X-Treme League is not a commercial product built by a marketing company. It was built by four credentialed martial arts masters. A 2× World Champion, a 3× WEKAF National Champion, a Hollywood stunt director, and a former military contractor. With a combined career span of over 80 years across 12+ martial arts traditions.

The Light Sword Martial Arts Federation is a Virginia nonprofit with 45 governing documents including a full constitution, bylaws, anti-doping policy, and certified referee standards. This is a legitimate, governed martial art with documented international competitive history dating to 2019.

"We launched Saber Tag as a club sport in the fall semester. By spring we had a 60-person intramural league and three Greek chapters booking philanthropy tournaments. Best programming addition we've made in five years."

"My 14-year-old wasn't connecting with traditional team sports. Eight months into Saber Tag and he's earned his Orange Sash, trains between sessions without being asked, and has a goal he actually cares about. The structure is transformative."

"Booked Saber Tag for our chapter's rush week. Every pledge and every active was completely locked in for two hours. Electronic scoring made it a real competition. Best rush event we've ever run."

"I signed up for the intramural league on a whim. Six weeks later I'm ranked nationally in my bracket and I've met more people than I did in my entire freshman year. This is the campus community nobody told me existed."

The Six Member Tools

Tool 01

Health Assessments

Every participant begins with a personalized health assessment. Workout preferences, energy levels, physical limitations, and wellness goals are captured at intake, so the platform delivers programs matched to each individual from day one, not a generic plan applied to everyone.

Tool 02

Body Vision

Body-mapping technology gives every member a 3D visualization of their current body composition and a projected view of where consistent training and nutrition takes them. For student athletes in the league, parents can see measurable physical development alongside rank progression, two documented outcomes instead of one.

Tool 03

Workout Programs

A full library of video-based training programs delivered inside the Saber Kinetics platform. participants access saber-specific conditioning programs (agility, reaction time, footwork, and core strength), that directly improve their campus rec league performance. Programs run solo, with a partner, or guided by the league operator.

Tool 04

Nutrition Programs

Detailed nutrition plans built for athletic development, with recipe libraries, meal tracking, and restaurant-friendly guidance. For campus students leagues, this extends campus wellness mission beyond the gym floor and into the daily habits of every participant enrolled in the program.

Tool 05

Wearable Integration

Members connect FitBit, Garmin, and supported fitness wearables directly to Saber Kinetics. Activity between campus rec league sessions is tracked, visible to members on their dashboard, and factored into wellness progress reporting. Members who train between sessions see it reflected in their data, reinforcing the habit.

Tool 06

Goal Settings

Every member sets measurable wellness goals inside Saber Kinetics. Tied to both physical milestones and league rank advancement. The platform tracks progress toward each goal, sends reminders, and surfaces the next steps. Progress data is student-visible through the branded portal and supports the campus rec student engagement mission tangibly.

Platform Capabilities for your campus recreation program

Campus Rec-Branded Portal

The Saber Kinetics platform is fully customized with your campus rec department's colors, logo, and identity. Members see your brand, not a third-party application. Every login, every screen, every communication reinforces membership in your organization, not a separate app they feel indifferent about.

Member Wellness Analytics

Campus Recreation staff access an analytics dashboard showing aggregated wellness data across all enrolled members: program participation rates, wellness assessment trends, and goal completion rates. This data is grant-reportable and strengthens every funding application the campus rec department submits for student programming and community wellness.

Progress-Based Incentives

Members earn points through participation: league attendance, workout completion, nutrition logging, and wellness check-ins. Performance ladders and achievement badges create visible progress that keeps members engaged between Saturday sessions. The Campus Rec determines what milestones earn recognition and what rewards are offered.

Mindfulness & Focus Tools

Beyond physical training, Saber Kinetics includes focus enhancement techniques, inner balance practices, and emotional wellness tools, delivered as guided exercises inside the platform. These align directly with the mental dimension of your campus recreation program's healthy living mission and extend the league's Code of S.A.B.E.R. into daily life.

Lifestyle Change Programs

Structured 6–12 week lifestyle programs guide members through incremental habit changes in movement, nutrition, and recovery. These programs are designed for long-term outcomes, not 30-day challenges. For your campus recreation program, this means a Saber Tag member who joined for the league is still active on the platform months after their first session.

Customized Content Delivery

The campus rec department controls what content appears inside the branded Saber Kinetics portal: saber training videos, wellness guides, league announcements, and custom programming. Content is delivered based on member profile, experience level, and league tier. What an intramural participant sees is different from what a Greek life event guest sees.

What Saber Kinetics Delivers for your campus recreation program

Member Retention. Members with active wellness goals on the platform return more consistently than members without one.

Grant Documentation. Wellness participation data from Saber Kinetics supports community health grant applications with measurable outcomes.

Program Differentiation. Pairing a branded wellness platform with a competitive sports league gives your Campus Rec program a differentiated offering most programs don't have in place yet.

Student Engagement. Students with visibility into their child's wellness data are more engaged and more likely to maintain membership across seasons.

Frequently Asked
Questions

These are the questions Campus Rec board members and program directors ask before approving the Saber Tag X-Treme League license. Answered here so your presentation is complete before you walk into the room.

What liability and insurance coverage does your campus recreation program need?
The campus rec department's existing general liability coverage applies to Saber Tag X-Treme League sessions in the same way it applies to any other physical activity program. The 2020 Armor electronic scoring vests are specifically designed for safe contact training, the system is used internationally. LSTA provides a complete safety protocol and session run-sheet. Operator certification covers all safety procedures. No additional insurance rider is required beyond what the campus rec department already carries for comparable physical programs.
How much space does a league session require?
A standard Campus Rec gymnasium floor accommodates a full Saber Tag session. A minimum usable area of approximately 30 × 40 feet supports a league session for 10–20 participants. Larger spaces allow concurrent matches. The equipment arrives in carry cases, sets up in under 20 minutes, and breaks down completely after each session. Nothing is left behind and no permanent floor markings are required.
What if your campus recreation program doesn't have staff with a martial arts background?
None required. The league operator certification is built specifically for staff with no martial arts background. Three remote sessions cover everything: equipment operation, session structure, bracket management, safety protocols, and Saber Circuit. The operator does not need to teach martial arts techniques. They run the league infrastructure. The curriculum and training content is delivered through the Shadow Warrior program and Saber Kinetics platform, not by the league operator.
What age groups can participate?
Participation is ages 13 and up. Which covers undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni participants, and qualifying teen ROTC cadets (13-17 cadets require parent or guardian consent on file). All participants are eligible for sanctioned bracket competition with national rankings and permanent athlete profiles on Saber Circuit from their first session. Campus rec departments configure brackets for competitive fairness, typically by experience level and age band. LSTA provides session run-sheets for each cohort configuration.
Can a sponsor pull out mid-season?
Sponsor agreements are handled directly between your campus recreation program and the sponsoring business. LSTA provides the sponsorship package templates. The contractual relationship is between your organization and the local business. Standard practice is to collect the full season sponsorship in advance before athlete registration opens, which eliminates mid-season withdrawal risk entirely. The Campus Rec retains all sponsorship revenue regardless of league outcomes.
What happens to the results and athlete profiles when the season ends?
All results and athlete profiles on Saber Circuit are permanent. A member who competed in their first campus rec league session in Year 1 still has that result on their national athlete profile in Year 5. This is what makes Saber Tag X-Treme League meaningfully different from recreational sports, the competitive history follows the athlete. For your campus recreation program, returning athletes bring documented competitive records that create a visible stakes structure for long-term retention.
Does your campus recreation program own the equipment or lease it?
The equipment package is included with the Mobile License. Contact LSTA for current pricing and ownership terms, these vary by license tier and agreement length. Equipment is covered under the LSTA maintenance protocol for the term of the agreement.
Can multiple Campus Recs in the same region run the league at the same time?
Yes. The Saber Tag X-Treme League is designed to scale across multiple locations within the same region or network. Each campus recreation department operates its own licensed league, and results from all locations feed Saber Circuit. This means a participant who trains at one branch can compete against participants from other branches. Creating a natural inter-branch competition structure that increases engagement across your entire Campus Rec network.

Built. Betrayed.
Rebuilt by four masters.

In 2015, Edward Armstrong built a light sword martial arts academy in the United States: 68 students, Entrepreneur of the Year, featured on ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox. Sijo Nathan Young, Sifu Julliana Armstrong, and Sifu Nick Benseman built the curriculum, the institutional partnerships, and the safety protocols alongside him.

In 2016, the franchise that gave the sport its international structure betrayed the warriors and operators inside it.

In 2017, all four walked away, and rebuilt from scratch, on their own terms, engineered against the exact failure modes they had survived.

That rebuild is why this partnership exists.

When you partner with LSTA, you become part of a federation built by people who refuse to let predatory operator terms or unsupported franchisees happen again. The terms you see on this page aren’t generous because we’re trying to win you. They’re what we wish we’d had.

Three reasons
this isn’t the right club sport for your campus.

Bringing a new sport to your rec or club sport program takes real effort. Before you advocate for this internally, here are three reasons it might not fit.

Your campus has zero student energy behind this.

Successful Saber Tag programs at colleges start with a student champion: a club president, an RA, or a campus rec staffer who’s personally excited. If nobody on campus is asking for this, top-down adoption struggles. Wait until the demand is real.

You need it to be Title IX-tracked from day one.

Saber Tag is Title IX-equitable by design (gender-blind sport with no weight classes that disadvantage women), but achieving formal Title IX-tracked status takes a year or more of program documentation. If you need that status immediately for budget approval, this isn’t the right time.

You can’t commit a recurring rec center or gym slot.

Like any club sport, Saber Tag needs a consistent weekly practice slot. If your facility scheduling is too chaotic to lock in a regular hour, the program can’t build the cohort it needs to qualify for intercollegiate play.

If any of those is your campus, we’d rather defer the partnership conversation than start one that stalls.
