Why Saber Tag X-Treme
Fits Your Calendar

Parks & Recreation directors carry a specific defensive stack: programs need to fill underserved demographics (the 13-18 teen population that aged out of youth sports, the 18+ adult league market growing nationally), justify their cost on the budget review, present cleanly at council on liability and supervision, and survive the constituent question of "why is the city running this." Saber Tag X-Treme answers all four. Sponsor-funded so cost is zero, certified-instructor supervised, ages 13+ only, and operationally identical to the Norfolk model that's been defended through three budget cycles.

01

No Facility Modifications

All equipment is mobile. Runs in existing gyms, recreation centers, pavilions, or outdoor courts. Arrives in carry cases. No installation. No permits required.

02

Seasonal Flexibility

The Model
Already Working

Saber Core Light Sword Academy in Norwich, CT launched February 7, 2026. Academy Operator Keith Nye licensed the full academy system in December 2025 and operates the Saturday leagues completely independently. Every result documented on Saber Circuit, the national competition platform, in real time.

Parks & Rec departments get the same turnkey system: no LSTA staff on-site, no facility modifications, no specialized background required before operator certification.

Your Department Plugs Into A Complete System.

Most municipal Parks & Recreation programs juggle multiple vendors for instruction, wellness, competition tracking, and operating documentation. Saber Tag X-treme delivers all four under one license, the Warrior Intelligence System Edge. Four operating layers that defend at council review, present cleanly in the budget binder, and run on existing rec center floor with no permanent installation.

Four Masters.
One System.

Saber Tag X-Treme League is not a commercial product built by a marketing company. It was built by four credentialed martial arts masters. A 2× World Champion, a 3× WEKAF National Champion, a Hollywood stunt director, and a military contractor. With a combined career span of over 80 years across 12+ martial arts traditions.

The Light Sword Martial Arts Federation is a Virginia nonprofit with 45 governing documents including a full constitution, bylaws, anti-doping policy, and certified referee standards. This is a legitimate, governed martial art with documented international competitive history dating to 2019.

Every Participant Gets
Saber Kinetics

Every community member enrolled in the Saber Tag X-Treme League receives full access to Saber Kinetics. The Six Member Tools

Tool 01

Health Assessments

Each community participant completes a personalized health assessment on intake: capturing activity preferences, current fitness level, health limitations, and wellness goals. The platform delivers programming matched to each individual. A 65-year-old senior and a 12-year-old athlete in the same league see completely different programs inside the same platform.

Tool 02

Body Vision

Body-mapping technology gives every participant a 3D visualization of their current body composition and a projected view of where consistent movement takes them. For Parks & Rec departments, this turns the league into a measurable community health intervention, not just a recreational activity. Visible progress keeps participants returning season after season. Individual results vary.

Tool 03

Workout Programs

A full video library of training programs tailored to saber movement: agility drills, footwork sequences, core conditioning, and flexibility work. Participants access these between Saturday sessions, extending the community program's physical impact to every day of the week without requiring additional staff hours or facility time from the department.

Tool 04

Nutrition Programs

Detailed nutrition plans, recipe libraries, and meal tracking tools are available to every enrolled participant. For Parks & Rec departments serving broad demographics (youth athletes, adults, and seniors), this extends the community wellness mission beyond physical activity and into the daily habits that produce lasting health outcomes documented in program impact reporting.

Tool 05

Wearable Integration

Participants connect FitBit, Garmin, and supported fitness devices directly to their Saber Kinetics profile. Activity between league sessions is captured automatically and surfaced on their wellness dashboard. For department reporting, aggregate wearable data demonstrates community-wide physical activity outcomes, not just Saturday attendance numbers.

Tool 06

Goal Settings

Every participant sets measurable wellness goals tied to both physical milestones and league rank advancement. The platform tracks progress, sends reminders, and surfaces next steps. Goal completion rates across your community population are tracked in the department analytics dashboard. Turning individual participant goals into aggregate community health data.

Platform Capabilities for Parks & Recreation

Department-Branded Portal

Saber Kinetics runs under your department's identity: your logo, your colors, your name. Community members log into a Parks & Recreation wellness platform, not a third-party app. Every touchpoint reinforces that this is a city or county service, which increases adoption rates and supports department credit for community health outcomes.

Community Wellness Analytics

Staff access a dashboard showing wellness data across the full participant population: segment by age group, location, program type, or season. This data supports budget justification, grant applications, and annual reporting. For departments with grant funding tied to community health metrics, Saber Kinetics produces the documented outcomes those grants require.

Progress-Based Incentives

Participants earn points through wellness program participation: league attendance, workout completions, nutrition logging, and health check-ins. Performance ladders, achievement badges, and seasonal challenges keep community members engaged long after the initial novelty wears off. Incentive structures are configured by your department.

Mindfulness & Focus Tools

Focus enhancement, inner balance practices, and stress regulation tools are delivered through guided exercises inside the platform: traditional practices used for relaxation, stress reduction, balance, and overall wellbeing. These address the mental dimension of community wellness, particularly relevant for underserved populations where limited access to stress-management resources is a documented barrier to physical activity participation.

Lifestyle Change Programs

Structured multi-week programs guide participants through incremental habit changes across movement, nutrition, sleep, and recovery. These produce documented long-term outcomes. The kind that support community wellness grant renewals, demonstrate program impact to elected officials, and justify recurring department budget allocations.

Multi-Location Management

The Saber Kinetics admin dashboard manages users across multiple locations, facilities, and seasonal programs, all under a single department account. Departments running leagues at multiple recreation centers see aggregate data across all sites simultaneously. Expanding from one location to several requires no additional platform configuration.

What Saber Kinetics Delivers for Parks & Recreation

Season-to-Season Retention. Participants with active wellness goals on the platform re-enroll at higher rates than those without.

Grant-Ready Data. Community wellness participation metrics from Saber Kinetics strengthen every wellness and youth programming grant application.

No Staff Overhead, The platform runs autonomously. Participants access it without requiring staff facilitation between sessions.

Year-Round Engagement. Participants remain on the wellness platform between seasonal leagues, extending the department's community health impact across the full calendar year.

Frequently Asked
Questions

The questions Parks & Recreation directors and program managers ask before bringing Saber Tag X-Treme to their department. Addressed here in full.

Can we start with a one-day event before committing to a full season?
Yes. The Drop-In Event format is specifically designed for this. A single community event that demonstrates the program to residents and gives the department data on participation demand before committing to a season license. Many departments run a one-day event as part of a summer fair or open house, document attendance and feedback, and use that data to justify a seasonal license proposal to their governing body.
What is the minimum number of participants to run a viable league?
A functional Saturday league session runs with as few as 8 participants (ages 13+, all eligible for sanctioned bracket competition from their first session). A competitive season with bracket play is most engaging with 16 or more. Saber Circuit handles any bracket size. Most departments that start with 8–12 participants in their first session see enrollment grow through word-of-mouth by the third or fourth week.
Does the department need a dedicated facility?
No. All equipment is mobile and can be set up in any existing gym, recreation center, outdoor pavilion, or multi-purpose space the department already operates. Setup takes under 20 minutes. The 2020 Armor electronic scoring vests are self-contained: no wiring, no floor installations, no permanent markings. The program travels with the equipment.
Which grant categories has this qualified for previously?
Saber Tag X-Treme League programs have been positioned under youth programming grants (federal, state, and county), community wellness funding (CDBG), and STEM-adjacent programming grants due to the motion-tracking and electronic scoring technology component. LSTA provides supporting documentation: program descriptions, outcome frameworks, and competitive data. That can be incorporated directly into grant applications. Contact LSTA for current grant documentation materials.
How does the department receive and document sponsor revenue?
The YMCA or Parks & Rec department invoices the sponsor directly using the provided sponsorship agreement template. All sponsor revenue flows to the department, not to LSTA. LSTA provides the sponsorship package materials, the agreement templates, and the documentation for sponsor deliverables (logos on platform, impact reports, etc.), but the financial relationship is entirely between your department and the local business. This keeps the revenue structure simple and auditable for government departments.
What if the league operator leaves the department?
Operator certification is transferable. If a certified operator leaves, a replacement staff member completes the same three-session remote certification. Saber Circuit, bracket history, athlete profiles, and all league data remain intact and are not tied to any individual operator. Continuity of the league is not disrupted by staff changes.
Can the league run seasonally rather than year-round?
Yes, and most departments start seasonally. The 6-week and 12-week session formats are designed specifically for spring, summer, or fall programming slots. Saber Circuit supports seasonal league structures with a full season wrap-up, rankings snapshot, and season champion documentation. Year-round operation is available but not required.
What does the Eastern Regionals mean for our participants?
Every participant who competes in your Saturday league is accumulating a national competitive record on Saber Circuit. LSMAF Eastern Regionals: Connecticut, scheduled for June 30, 2027, is the first sanctioned LSMAF competition. Participants with documented Saturday league records are eligible to compete. For your department, this means participants are building toward something real, not just showing up on Saturdays.

Built. Betrayed.
Rebuilt by four masters.

In 2015, Edward Armstrong built a light sword martial arts academy in the United States: 68 students, Entrepreneur of the Year, featured on ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox. Sijo Nathan Young, Sifu Julliana Armstrong, and Sifu Nick Benseman built the curriculum, the institutional partnerships, and the safety protocols alongside him.

In 2016, the franchise that gave the sport its international structure betrayed the warriors and operators inside it.

In 2017, all four walked away, and rebuilt from scratch, on their own terms, engineered against the exact failure modes they had survived.

That rebuild is why this partnership exists.

When you partner with LSTA, you become part of a federation built by people who refuse to let predatory operator terms or unsupported franchisees happen again. The terms you see on this page aren’t generous because we’re trying to win you. They’re what we wish we’d had.

Three reasons
this isn’t the right program for your department.

Adding a new recurring program to your rec calendar is a budget and staff decision. Before you advocate to your director, here are three reasons it might not fit.

Your department’s registration system can’t handle paid programming.

Saber Tag league programs use participant fees as the revenue model. If your municipal department only runs free drop-in programming and can’t process paid registrations, the league economics don’t work and the program can’t sustain itself.

You can’t protect a recurring weekly time block.

Like any rec league, Saber Tag needs a consistent practice slot. Floating times or one-off sessions don’t build the regular cohort the format needs to compound, the format is built around weekly ranked play.

You need the program to serve under-13s as its primary market.

Saber Tag is built for teens and adults (13+) with safety protocols designed for that age range. If your department’s primary mandate is youth-under-13 programming, this isn’t the right channel. LSTA doesn’t run under-13 programming, so you’d need a different partner for that demographic.

If any of those is your department, the partnership timeline isn’t right yet. We’d rather say so now.
